“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” ― Margaret Mead

Editor’s July 20 2014 Note:

I heard about the Achievers Book Club (ABC) – now Achievers Ghana – some years back and was impressed with the work they were doing. When a former schoolmate contacted me some months ago saying they needed some help raising funds and getting educational supplies, it was a no brainer. As an educated young Muslim Ghanaian woman, I am very aware of how fortunate I am – to not only have parents who believe in education, but also encourage myself and my sisters to challenge ourselves. I could also relate with some of the stereotypes around being a Muslim girl. Trick of fate, and I could have been a slum-dwelling Muslim girl as well – hungry for education, but dreading its sudden termination. My sister and cousins also relate so we decided to launch a Ramadan fundraiser for books, stationary and money. I hope many of you are inspired by the ABC story and donate towards this fundraiser  – every bit counts and all proceeds go to Achievers Book Club. Thanks in advance.

October 27 2014 Update:

Achievers Book Club received over US$1000 in August 2014. We recently got word that the funds from our Ramadan Fundraiser in July have been successfully transferred to the Achievers Bookclub (ABC) and that all 7 girls selected for full scholarships for this academic year are in school, learning, and “and glued to the books, reading, really reading!

Our heartfelt thanks goes to all who contributed in cash, time and kind – because of you, a girl and her family have peace of mind regarding school necessities for the year. Because of you, a cycle of poverty might just be broken. Because of you, a girl will meet and surpass her potential. THANK YOU!

To everyone else – It seems the news of gloom, disease and doom is endless these days. We wanted to share this with you as a reminder that goodness and kindness still abounds – you have the power to multiply it.

Show some kindness today. Just for heck of it. Here’s to a positively amazing week!
